Arizona Burn Foundation

Camp Courage is just one of the ways in which we strive to support burn survivors in their journeys to thrive after a burn injury. We have an amazing community of survivors, families, and volunteers who come together and make Camp Courage a safe, encouraging, and uplifting week for these kids.

The Arizona Burn Foundation has been providing scholarships to attend the Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors World Burn Congress to burn survivors in Arizona for numerous years. In 2017, the World Burn Congress Scholarship Program was renamed the Dr. Daniel Caruso World Burn Congress Scholarship program, in honor of the late Dr. Daniel Caruso, esteemed burn surgeon and long-time Arizona Burn Foundation supporter.

We will be awarding the Daniel M. Caruso World Burn Congress scholarship to three families this year:

Isabella and Lily McCune
Alessandro, Veronica and Jose Holguin

Camp Courage is staffed by volunteers including doctors, nurses, social workers, physical and occupational therapists, fire service personnel, teachers, and other professionals. Many of the staff are burn survivors themselves, a few were even campers at one point. The qualified staff participates in various professional development, team-building, and training sessions designed to prepare them to deal with the specific needs of burn survivors. This results in a highly dedicated group of volunteers.

Each year we need volunteers for the following positions: Counselors (guide campers through all activities all week); Ropes Crew (be a part of the ropes course, challenge course, archery or rifles); Art and Crafts (help campers express themselves creatively); and, Lifeguards (for the swimming pool and Lake Day).

Applications for Camp Courage 2019 are now CLOSED. All volunteers must be available for MANDATORY TRAINING on May 4, 2019. New applicants must be available for interviews with the Core Committee on March 1 or 2, 2019. For more information contact programs@azburn.org.
