Recently, ABF partnered with members of the Arizona Burn Center’s Child Life and Therapy teams to provide a School Reentry for our young burn survivor, Yuna! Going to school can be scary for many children and the fear can become more real if they have visible burn scars. The school reentry presentation serves as a way for hospital staff to introduce the burn survivor to their classmates in a creative and supportive way.

Child Life shared the story of Yuna, or Dinosaur Princess, who was injured with her mom and brother in a house fire years ago. Therapy spent time talking with the class about the importance of stretching after a burn injury and Milo & Moxie made an appearance to talk about burn and fire safety. Classmates got to ask questions, share stories and all pledge to be brave kids – just like Yuna! Mom was emotional after watching the presentation and realizing that her daughter would be surrounded by so many friends who care about her. ABF is so happy to partner with the Arizona Burn Center on these special presentations!
