Advocating for Survivor Aftercare
On Monday August 22nd, Erika Mendoza, MS presented in front of the Burn Care Principles Class. These nursing students have expressed interest in burn care as their area of specialty. After their regular class Erika Mendoza, MS was able to talk about ABF and the many programs and services we have to offer not only survivors but the community as well.
She shared her story as a burn survivor and focused on the importance of after care and being connected to the burn community for a burn survivor and their loved ones. She went over the referral process and encouraged our future burn nurses to advocate for aftercare and connecting survivors to important resources like ABF. Overall this is another step in strengthening our partnership with Banner University Medical Center Tucson in their journey towards obtaining their ABA certification.
Most importantly, we are spreading awareness of the support ABF is able to provide for survivors starting when the patient is in the hospital and the community as well through smoke alarm walks and deaf and hard of hearing installs. We’re excited for our relationship with banner University Medical Center Tucson.
