Last fall, ABF Social Worker Kelsey and Child Life Specialist Danielle, did a school re-entry presentation for Aria’s 2nd grade class at Westwood Elementary. The presentation started with a read through of Milo and Moxie: Smart Safety Rangers, which talks about how to stay safe and avoid burn injuries in the home. Danielle then shared the story of a little sloth, who was injured after playing with matches and was admitted to the burn center for treatment. At the end, it was revealed that the sloth’s story was also Aria’s burn injury story! Aria was injured in 2021 and spent months in the burn center, recovering from her injuries. Student then got to ask questions about burns and burn care and all took a pledge to be a good friend to Aria. After the presentation, Aria’s mom said, “thank you so much for coming to her school, I know it meant so much to her. She was super excited!”

Today, her mom has shared that Aria is thriving in her 2nd grade classroom and has made many new friends.
