Volunteer Spotlight: Honoring the Heart of ABF

Volunteers are at the heart of the Arizona Burn Foundation—showing up with compassion, selflessness, and dedication.

During April’s National Volunteer Week, we highlighted a few incredible individuals (and duos!) who go above and beyond in support of our community.

Devon McCluskey

Devon has volunteered with ABF for four years, supporting everything from Camp Courage to holiday events—always showing up with positivity and heart. This year, she steps into the role of Camp Administrator.

“Devon is the type of person who gets along with everyone – kind-hearted, thoughtful, intentional, and always smiling, said Tess Robaina, ABF’s Programs Director. “She proactively thinks of ways to improve Camp Courage, is willing to take on both big projects and small tasks with the same amount of enthusiasm and has SUCH a big heart. She connects effortlessly with everyone she meets, whether a young camper or a fellow volunteer, making you feel at ease and appreciated.”

Cyrus Behrana & Andrea Leon

For more than eight years, Cyrus and Andrea have served on Camp Courage’s Psychosocial Team, helping create a space where campers feel safe, supported, and free to be themselves.

“Cyrus makes campers and volunteers feel comfortable enough to be themselves… non-judgmental, supportive, and always willing—even when that means wearing every group costume we create,” said Kelsey Stryker, ABF’s Director of Client Care Services.

Kelsey also adds, “Andrea is warm, funny, and carries a literal bag of toys and fidgets that everyone loves… She remembers so many of our campers from their time in the hospital, and they light up seeing her each year. She knows exactly how to make each kiddo feel seen and loved.”

Tony Roberts

After joining Camp Courage as a counselor in 2025, Tony quickly jumped deeper into volunteering—supporting ABF’s signature fundraiser Festival of Trees.

“Tony goes above and beyond with genuine enthusiasm,” said Theresa Wilkinson, ABF’s Operations Coordinator. “He comes prepared to help in any way we need, and I always know I can count on him to bring dedication and passion.”

Renee Trujillo

Since joining ABF in 2024, Renee has supported events like the Holiday Party and Camp Connection, consistently bringing reliability and heart.

“Guided by her faith and a deep desire to help others, Renee is someone we can always count on,” said Ximena Contreras, ABF’s Burn Care Support Coordinator located in Tucson. “She takes initiative and even brings younger family members to volunteer—showing the next generation the importance of giving back.”

Mike Dwyer

In addition to his work with the Red Cross, Mike supports ABF’s Community Smoke Alarm Walks, helping install alarms and educate families.

“Mike is truly dedicated to making families safer,” said Michelle, ABF’s Community Engagement & Multimedia Manager. “His passion shines through in every conversation with community members, every alarm he installs, and the way he inspires other volunteers.

These are just a handful of the hundreds of volunteers who support ABF and the burn community each year. We are deeply grateful for their time, compassion, and commitment.
