CEO Corner February 2025

We are deeply saddened by the recent firework tragedy in Aliamanu, Hawaii, on New Year’s Eve. As our most loyal supporters, I wanted to share an update on ABF’s role in supporting the affected families.

Currently, five survivors are receiving expert care at the Diane and Bruce Halle Arizona Burn Center in Phoenix.

Over the past five weeks, ABF’s dedicated Client Care Services team has been assisting twenty family members with lodging, transportation, and meals while in Phoenix. Because no family should have to worry about their essential needs at a time like this.

Kevin’s family recently shared how grateful they are for the support of our team. It is because of you, our supporters, that we can offer this support during such an unimaginable time. Thank you.

“Kevin fought against his injuries and infections for as long as he could. It has been a difficult 28 days for our family and we are grateful for the outpouring of kokua from the communities in Arizona and Hawaii but most especially we are thankful for the utmost care and love shown by the Arizona Burn Foundation and Valley Wise Health medical workers. The Arizona Burn Foundation connected with us prior to our arrival in Arizona to coordinate the lodging at no cost to our family for both of our visits. The foundation was very flexible with changing dates and times due to family traveling on different flights. The generosity of the foundation did not stop at lodging; the foundation provided us hospital meal vouchers for our stay in addition to Gas Cards for our rental vehicle. The foundation also supported our family with financial assistance for the transporting of Kevin from the mortuary in Arizona. We are forever grateful to our Support Coordinator, Vanessa Moore and the Arizona Burn Foundation for being at our side during this traumatic time in our lives.” – Eric Nunies

A heartfelt thank you to our compassionate team at ABF, our medical partners at the Diane and Bruce Halle Arizona Burn Center, and the families for allowing us to be there for them. We will continue to support you now and, in the days, months and years to come.
