CEO Corner July 2024

As we celebrate the 4th of July, I’m reminded of the spirit of independence and community that defines our great nation. This holiday brings families and friends together to celebrate, often with barbecues, parades, and of course, fireworks. While these traditions are cherished, they also present an opportunity for us to reflect on safety and responsibility.

At Arizona Burn Foundation, we’ve seen firsthand the devastating impact of firework-related injuries. Each year, thousands of people, many of them children, suffer burns due to improper handling of fireworks. As we celebrate our nation’s independence, let’s also commit to protecting our loved ones and neighbors.

Here are a few simple yet crucial safety tips to keep in mind:

– Never allow children to handle fireworks
– Keep a bucket of water or a garden hose nearby
– Light fireworks one at a time, then move away quickly
– Never try to relight or handle malfunctioning fireworks
– Soak all used fireworks in water before disposing of them

Remember, even seemingly harmless items like sparklers can reach temperatures of up to 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit. Consider safer alternatives like glow sticks or LED light toys for young children.

As we continue our mission to bring burn prevention education and support to communities across Arizona, your ongoing support makes all the difference. Your generosity allows us to provide resources, education, and assistance to those affected by burn injuries, not just during holiday seasons but throughout the year.

This 4th of July, as we celebrate our freedom, let’s also celebrate our ability to care for one another. Whether you’re attending a public fireworks display or hosting a small gathering at home, prioritize safety and look out for those around you.

From all of us at Arizona Burn Foundation, we wish you a safe and joyous Independence Day. Let’s make this holiday memorable for all the right reasons.

Stay safe, everyone, and I look forward to hearing from you and seeing you soon.
